In The Wood

Hi All!
Today's card I made just for the fun of it. No commitments or assignments involved, just an image I wanted to use for an occasion that hasn't even come up.
Love those kind. :-)
My only regret is that I used a thick paper to paper piece. Not a smart idea cos you can see/feel the edges. But ! I do looooove this paper pack and the pattern was just right.

My recipe:
Image: ADFD
Colors: Lyras/ Prismas
Ribbons: Sew Sweet
Brads: Basic Gray

I would like to play with:

Hi Guys!
Just a quickie post today to show you a card I made for Bunny Zoe's Crafts.
This is a stamp by Marianne Designs and she's kinda funky flapperish. Or something like that. Anyway I decided she needed to be in red but once the card was done I thought I'd be seeing red for some time to come....
Then I added yellow to break up the red and oh dear what have I done.... :-/

Recipe:
Flourish and nestie oval: Spellbinders
ZigZag ribbon: Sew Sweet
Papers: K&Co
Colors: Prismacolors on Kraft

Have a great week!!

Card Storage

Hey Guys!
Check out this cool old card/book stand I found at an antique shop in town. It was a little bent out of shape and some bobbles are missing but it spins on its base and holds my 6x6 cards perfectly.
Better still it was $15!
I just love finding deals like that!

Have a great weekend!!

Hi All!
Today's project I made for this fortnight's Catered Crop party.
One of the cool things about the current party is that we're being sponsored by one of my favorite artists:

Tammy gave me this image to work with and I have to say its pretty cute!
One person will win a $12.00 Gift coupon to spend in her store.

My Recipe:

And now its your turn to.....

For those of you who are new to The Catered Crop, this is what we do:
One project a fortnight is chosen to be cased. We list all the ingredients used in that person's project and using a selection of these we make our own projects.
So this time around  Sarah from  La-De-Dah was chosen to be cased. Here's her project below:

And in red are the ingredients I used.

Papers - Design Paper (K&Co), torn book page, doily, paper scraps
Stamps – flowers, leaves, sentiment
Color MediumsDistress inks, Archival ink, Crackle, Viva Gold, cream paint
Embellishmentsribbon, lace, mini-tag, button, press-studs, thread
Techniques – stamped resist technique (on bird), stitching, Grunge Rose, sewing, distress
ToolsDie cuts - bird, cage, flower

A Color Study~ Yellow and Red

OK, so I've been playing again. :-)
A few months ago I discovered a forum out there on the www, perhaps you've heard of it, called Wet Canvas. Its an awesome site where artists get together and share their expertise. Well in the forum there are some exercises you can do in color mixing.  One is a study in yellow, you can find it here
I used their suggestions for mixing colors to make up the chart above.
Below is a color study in red .
I used my own combinations of pencils based on what the forum explained in  color theory.
I think it opens up a whole new world in coloring, so many choices, so many results :-)

I hope some of you find this useful .
I'll be back on Thursday!

Colored Pencil Surgery

So today I feel like talking about how to get the most from our colored pencils. Although they're tons cheaper than copics, its amazing how fast you can plow through the leads. (especially prismas since they're so soft and break notoriously easy) Before you know it you have dozens of tiny of stubs that you can barely hold.
Some of these you can remedy with a handy dandy pencil extender. They'll run you back about 3-5 dollars apiece. But its well worth it to keep at least two in your stash.

The pencil just fits into the sheath like so...

But eventually the pencils get too small even for extenders.
Look at these poor little guys....awwwww

But never say die. All you need is some super glue.

Just glue your old stub onto the end of your new pencil. (make sure you leave the pencil number at the end that won't be sharpened.) You can see the cream pencil that I glued a couple of weeks ago...the tip is absolutely miniscule now but you can see how  this method ensures that absolutely none of the pencil lead is wasted. You can sharpen straight through the glued portion.

They are a little long at first but will soon wear down .
By the way, not all pencils are suitable for this. Lyras, for example, have rounded ends which can't be glued together.
I hope this is useful to someone else. :-)

Enjoy The Moment

Hi Guys~!
THis is just a little notebook I made for my daughter. She is going to use it as a kind of "autograph book" for all her friends to write in.
I'm using an image by Wags And Whiskers called "Thinking Of You". You can buy it from Bunny Zoe's Crafts here

Most of the ribbon is from my stash but the white ribbon is from Sew Sweet.
The paper is from my stash. The border punch is Martha Stewart and the pearls are a gift from Uli. Thanks, Uli!
The notebook I bought at a local dollar store.
The image was colored with Lyra Rembrant and Prismacolor pencils. (I mainly used lyras but I needed a more opaque white for the blouse which was where the prismacolors came in. Also I used the prisma cream for highlights.)

I am using this card as my Catered Crop project, you can join in and follow the recipe here:
Here's your FTR20 recipe.
  • Colors – Soft pastels
  • Stamps and Stickers – Butterflies, flowers, sentiment
  • Color Mediums – crayolas, stamping ink,
  • Embellishments – ribbon, glitter, lace, rosettes, tag, rhinestones/gems, pearls, ribbon
  • Techniques – use your own handwriting, embossing, stitching, make a bookmarker
  • Tools –Die cuts, digital stamps
  • Themes –Shabby Chic
(I have highlighted the ingredients I utilized in red but you can use any of the ingredients you choose.)
This week we are sponsored by
One  player will win a $30.00 GIFT CERTIFicATE AT HEARTFELT CREATIONS!
